For people with no prior experience we offer a 3 month probationary period during which time you are able to attend up to 3 of our "shoots". This gives you ample opportunity to try the different type of events we hold and see if the sport of archery is for you. We typically hold two shoots each month.
If you don't have your own gear, there is club gear available for hire. Our coaches are also willing to asses the gear you already have and will advise on the suitability thereof.
There are costs to attend the shoots during this period. Cubs are able to shoot at no cost if accompanied by a paying supervising adult. Please see further down on this page.
On your first visit, one of our qualified coaches will spend some time with you on the practice range. Here you learn safety, the basics of shooting arrows, and how to become an archer. After this you proceed, with any other newcomers, on to the range proper to put in to practice what you have learnt
The bush range makes ABA archery interesting because you aren't standing in an open field shooting at targets. It involves moving from target to target, usually 20 in total, and shooting at varying distances and in varying environments. Typically the event will take most of the day, with a break for lunch.
For safety reasons there are some dress rules to be observed.
- Sturdy, enclosed shoes to be worn.
- Collard shirt and hat to prevent sunburn
- No camouflage clothing allowed
- Must carry your own water on the course
We have a canteen where hot food and cold drinks may be purchased for lunch.
